Cygnet Weekly Update: Monday 17th Nov 2014

17th November 2014

Evenin' All,

Last couple of weeks for some, ramping up for the Scullers Head, more below. And for the rest of us, working on and off the water as we look towards Head racing in 8s. Plus some social activities planned, as we're not a million miles from Christmas.

On that subject, those of you that are active will have seen Coach Sue's urging: as soon as Scullers Head is out of the way, i.e. from December, if you wish to race in the Head races from January onwards then you will need to amend your availability to show that you're okay to be included in squad outings. We will hopefully have a number of outings where we will have enough rowers and coxes to have side by side outings - these are likely to be mixed ability initially in order to bring on the less experienced rowers.

A couple of you have mentioned kit - now that it's raining almost constantly and getting a bit colder. We're on it, and are in discussion with a couple of potential suppliers (after our current suppliers messed us around rather too much with our last order). Watch this space.

This week

Tues - Squad Erg. 2x 4500m, r19/20. 90s rest inbetween the two pieces. Each piece to include 4x 10stroke bursts r30-32.

Thurs - Circuits. Meet at 7.00pm at the club, or 7.15pm at the school. A reasonably healthy turnout last week (in terms of numbers), but we can do better: it's pre-paid for, sort-of fun and very good for you.

Thurs is also post-training food, with Matt B donning the chef's hat this week. See you there.

Sat and Sun morning outings: 7.45am, 9.45am - crew lists to follow. (And well done to all that were prompt this weekend - it made a difference: on Saturday morning Sue was nearly speechless that her crew had got everything ready and done a warm-up run. Nearly speechless).

Also on Saturday morning after outings, Neil P is going to lead a bit of a party to sort out, rig, and paint blades on. Would be great to get a few helpers if possible. Jobs are likely to take most of the rest of the day(light) but the more the merrier and perhaps a few beers afterwards?

Further Ahead

The entries are confirmed for Scullers Head on Sat 29th Nov. Neil Pickford, Nick Bates, Bart de Groot, Guy du Parc Braham, and Jeremy Pugh will be in Cygnet colours. Plus Sid Suthers in (ahem) red & yellow. Plus Katy Baldwin for BBLRC. That's a big enough field for someone to set up a book..

That's all for now.
