Autumn Racing
24th October 2024
The World Masters Rowing Regatta took place between 11–15th September at Brandenburg an Der Havel, Germany. Cygnet were represented by Iain Golder who was part of a composite crew with Guildford RC (Brad, Richard and Paul) A really good race was reported with our chaps just being piped into 4th place in Final 3 of the Masters F 4– event, in a time of 2.01.
Next up was the Rhine Marathon which took place on Saturday 5th October. Two Cygnet crews joined seven crews from our friends at Benrath. There was a lot of water in the Rhine this year, with the water rising 30cm overnight on Friday and continuing to increase as the race went on! As you can imagine, this made for some very fast times (and some very bumpy water) with the fastest boat crossing the line in under 2 hours, something that hasn't happened for 7 years.
The older, wiser, crew of Neil, Martin, Mustafa, Cris (coxed by Mucha) clocked in at 2.29.42 but were piped by the younger, fitter crew of Charles, James, Tom, Rupert (coxed by Tichel) who covered the 43km in 2.26.43
Many beers and much pig was subsequently consumed, the day being completed with a post-race recovery session taking place on the dance floor/mosh pit of the party tent in Urdenbach. Many thanks, as always, for all the effort made on our behalf by our hosts at RG Benrath.
Note: next year is the 60th Anniversary of the Benrath/Cygnet friendship and plans are afoot to celebrate this. Watch this space and your club comms for more details as they are confirmed.
A week after the Marathon The Pairs Head took place on the Tideway – after a nervous wait to see what colour the flag was in Saturday morning! Cygnet we're represented by one crew comprising Captain Dom and Hon. Secretary Jordan who finished third in their category, Open Club 2–
Great to see Cygnet out competing in a wide variety of events, with the next being Vet Fours Head on Saturday 23th and Fours Head on SUNDAY 24th November respectively. Both start at 10.00am.
