Cygnet Weekly Update: Monday 29th June 2015

29th June 2015

Evening All,

A lovely weekend to be on the water, particularly up at Richmond, and particularly when Cygnet (and BBL) are winning pots! Yes indeed, Bart & Gav won their straight final at IM2 2- at Richmond Regatta on Saturday. In fact, notwithstanding the odd steering wobble (and forgetting their blades), they dominated their opposition Walbrook RC to notch a comfortable win - which is what you get when you've put the effort in getting to multi-lane regattas at Peterborough and Dorney recently. Very well deserved.

Our Novice 4+ fared less well, but reported a strong start and strong finish - bearing in mind this was the first proper regatta race for a couple of them. But a very tidy Vesta crew did for them in the middle half of the race (and went on to win the final).

And well done to the victorious BBL Quad.

It all gets a bit busy for the next few weeks, so bear with.

The next regatta in our sights is of course Henley Royal Regatta - and our club day this Friday. Cygnet aren't competing this year, but we will be seeking to impress the crowds with a row-past to mark our 125th anniversary. Hope to see lots of you at Old Blades for the highlight of the summer.

The following weekend (Fri 10th and Sat 11th) is Henley Masters Regatta - down a shorter version of the same course. Our Mas.B 2- have their first round on the Friday lunchtime, whilst both our Mas.B 4+s have byes to the semi-finals on Saturday. Watch this space.

And the following Friday (17th) is of course our House of Lords reception. Please bagsy your tickets now (website and booking form) so that we have an idea of numbers and your names can go down on the door so the bouncers (policemen with machine guns) will let you in.

This week

Tuesday evening - outings, Sue's sent out crew lists.

Thursday evening - outings, Sue's sent out crew lists

Friday morning - outings, followed by the Ute and trailer being loaded to take the 8 to Henley

Friday day - Old Blades, Henley Royal Regatta

Saturday morning - outings will be self-organised to allow some to recover from the above.

Sunday morning - outings - crew lists to follow.

Sunday lunchtime - monthly BBL/Cygnet pub lunch, Sun Inn from 12.30, as per Cris's social email.

Also on Sunday, the Barnes Bridge Ladies are starting their next Get-Fit-And-Row course (10am). Whilst we plan to have a big push for our next Learn-to-Row in September, if you know of anyone who can't wait that long, we have agreed that some potential Cygnets can join this BBL course. If so, you may be asked to lend a hand in terms of sitting a boat or demonstrating how to erg.

Further ahead

25th and 26th of July is the mighty St Neots Regatta. Entries are already open, and both clubs are hoping to send strength in numbers, including mixed boats. If you haven't already, please do a) keep that weekend free, b) confirm you're available, and c) come with a flexibility to jump into any exciting crew combination you're put in. It's always a lot of fun.

I think that's all for now.

See you in the week.
